scouting report A. Vinzant
11/24/17 After attending an early Swarm game in Greensboro, I decided to look around the town and see if there were any interesting spots to eat at. Fortunately, and kind of unfortunately, there are a ton of very interesting spots around town. But one that caught my eye was a very interesting looking pizza shop called Sticks and Stones. We asked our barista about it (Common Grounds across from S&S) and he highly recommended it, so we decided to check it out. The Sweet Carolina pizza. Tomato sauce, sweet Italian sausage, wood roasted chilies, spinach, mozzarella, fresh ricotta, and parmesan. I am an absolute sucker for ricotta cheese on a pizza, but even more so for a pizza with a lot of any kind of cheese. I'm a cheesy guy. The crust was great; crispy and thin, but not too thin and not very burnt. The cheeses went so well together; almost nothing is better than getting an awesome cheese pull when you grab your slice of the pie. But the sweet sausage was the star player. In what amounts to a super team pizza, the sausage's sweet and spicy flavor stood out and worked very well together with the savory flavors of the cheese and the crunch of the crust to create an awesome and flavorful pizza. There were so many elements to this, which, as with super teams, can be tough to deal with, but it really came together in the end to make a bigtime dish at a place with a ton of other appealing options.
