Lewis Barbeque is one of the best barbeque joints around and their weekly specials such as the Smoked Beef and Cheddar sandwich is Bigtime. It’s a play off of Arby’s famous beef and cheddar sandwiches but is taken to the next level and is available only on Fridays ($12). It starts with John Lewis’ famous smoked beef which are smoked with a sweet, peppery dry rub for over 10 hours. The beef is the highest quality and is thinly sliced with smoke ring and crust in tact and piled on to a locally sourced brioche bun. The beef is tender and melts with every bite. Not much chewing is required as the meat and bun are soft and silky. Then the magic happens with the homemade cheddar sauce that flows over the beef slices, coating every inch beautifully as it drips down and around your modest paper plate (see pic above). The cheddar incorporates John Lewis’ tex mex background with hints of jalapeño and roasted Hatch chili peppers which add spice to the salty cheese. Like the beef and brioche bun, the cheese is smooth and silky which makes eating this simple three ingredient masterpiece a pleasure.
