12/05/17 Judge me however you want, but I'm not ashamed to say that I grew up on fried bologna sandwiches. I probably ate a handful of these things per week throughout the majority of my childhood (shoutout to Oscar Mayer). In my experience, it's rare to see one on a restaurant menu, so it's safe to say my interest was piqued upon discovering this option at Hello, Sailor. I wasn't quite sure what to expect as it was described by the waitress like a fried bologna sandwich/Chicago hot dog hybrid, but I ordered it anyway. I can emphatically say that after running this dish back a few minutes after downing the first one (I shared it, OK?!), this is the latest of many bigtime bites created by the Kindreds. This sandwich is everything good you could possibly imagine when thinking about combining a fried bologna sandwich and a Chicago hot dog...at first, the poppy seed bun catches you off-guard, and you might find yourself contemplating whether you've ever eaten a slice of bologna this thick (before this meal, I sure hadn't); by the end, you'll be licking your fingers clean and picking up the scraps of sport pepper from the 60s-70s era lunch tray that this thing is served on. The classic flavor combo of a Chicago dog + the nostalgia of mom's homemade sandwiches really set this dish apart from the rest of the menu. Similar to Kindred's (sister restaurant) BLT, you're kidding yourself if you think you won't need to use the steak knife that conveniently accompanies this beast of a sandwich. Vet move #1: to start your meal off, make sure to try the hamachi - it's unique, refreshing and very tasty! Vet move #2: if you are an aperol spritz fan, they have them on draft, here! If you've never had one, try it. I highly recommend these, as well.
