KoKyu Na'Mean continues to blow me away with every visit. I am completely set on walking through the entire menu. It is a Vietnamese/Korean sandwich shop that mainly serves unique versions of Banh Mi. The last sandwich I had here was the best sandwich I had eaten in my entire life, and I am not a big sandwich fan, even though I'm from the land of poboys.
This sandwich was not far behind the last sandwich I had here. KO F.C is Korean Fried Chicken, Gochujang Mayo (spicy Korean chili paste), Kimchi Slaw, and Mae Ploy (Thai red curry paste), all on a crunchy bun that seems like it's fried, but I'm not 100% sure.
The chicken is fantastic. Honestly, I would eat the chicken by itself and be okay. Perfectly cooked large nuggets of juicy chicken that were fried just enough to have a crunch but not be hard. Smothered in a spicy-sweet gochujang mayo and covered with the Mae Ploy. You would think that this dish would be very spicy, but the masters in the kitchen do a fantastic job of using just enough of the sauces to give it a good kick, while using just enough of the kimchi slaw to mellow everything out. The spicy sauces with the savory chicken, the sweet and sour of the slaw, the crunch of the bread and the chicken, these make a Bigtime Bite special. I planned on taking half of this to-go, but I don't think it could have made it past the door. I absolutely demolished this sandwich with great pleasure. If you're looking for a special sandwich in Durham, this should be on top of your list.
