scouting report A. Vinzant
12/14/17 I was born and raised in Louisiana and had the privilege of enjoying my grandma's wonderful Cajun home-cooking throughout my life. I've had a lot of Cajun food, so I typically have low expectations for 'Cajun' dishes I find outside of my home state. But this dish blew me away. Jambalaya is a traditional Louisiana dish that has rice with chicken broth and a few other sautéed vegetables, plenty of spice, and almost always has chicken and sausage. The rice is gooey/sticky. When I heard about LaPlace (named after a town in Louisiana) I decided I had to try it. I typically stay far away from these places, but I miss the food from home and I wanted to give it a try. I was not disappointed. This was the best Cajun dish I have ever had outside of my home state. They get everything right at LaPlace. It was Cajun-level spicy. Everything was cooked to perfection, including the shrimp, which is rare around here. The consistency of the rice was perfectly gooey and it had a nice sweetness that helped to add a little balance to the very spicy dish. The sausage was flavorful and the chicken was as well. This dish was Bigtime and made this Louisiana kid feel right at home again. If you're in the area and you've been wanting to try some Louisiana food, check this place out and I can guarantee you won't be disappointed. But be prepared for some spice...
