Khe-Yo is a renowned Laotian restaurant located in the Tribeca neighborhood in NYC. The concept is small plates to be shared family style. One of the best Bigtime Bites I had during my visit was the Sesame Beef Jerky served with smoked chili sauce and pickled radish ($14). The beef jerky was absolutely full of flavors familiar to Southeast Asia. It had hints of lemongrass mixed with fish sauce, chili powder, soy sauce and tamarind. All these flavors combined gave the beef jerky a rich salty, sweet, sour and spicy essence. The quality of the beef cannot be overlooked as well. It was the perfect cut and wasn’t too thin or thick, which gave it a bit of chew but none of the dryness that some jerky’s tend to have. The smoked chili sauce was a great compliment to the meat as it proved the extra smoke and spice. It was more of a paste than a sauce which holds up well to the chewy beef jerky. Be sure to check out Khe-Yo on any visit the Big Apple...
