The moment we got off the plane in Houston, I knew exactly where I needed to go. My favorite taco place on earth, unashamedly, is Torchy's Tacos. It's a Texas chain that started in Austin, TX, and it's the first place where I ate a taco with all the fixings. It's where my love for weird food began.
So, to begin my visit home, we went to the nearest Torchy's. It's a taco shop that serves unique tacos and always has a featured taco of the month. It is also home to my favorite salsa and queso on earth. Since I had not visited in some time, I went with my usual: Brushfire and Trailer Park. The Brushfire has jerk chicken, mangoes, cilantro, and their diablo sauce while the Trailer Park has fried chicken, chiles, lettuce, cheddar jack cheese, and if you're like me you get it 'trashy' which replaces the lettuce with queso.
The Brushfire is taco perfection. It heals an aching heart. Spicy and juicy chicken met with sweet mangoes and the flavor of cilantro on a corn tortilla. It would be my last meal if I had a choice. It's so flavorful, and so spicy. The Trailer Park is the fun one. The juicy and savory crunchy fried chicken strip with the spicy chiles and peppers smothered in queso. It certainly lives up to the 'trashy' name. These tacos have all the elements of a Bigtime bite, and they will forever remain in my Hall of Fame. If you ever get the chance to go to a Torchy's, please take advantage of it.
