I don't know if any trip to New Orleans is complete for me until I stop by District. It's a local shop that specializes in massive unique donuts as well as some amazing other features including great coffee. They change their donuts daily, and they are all at least the size of my hand. This time, on my way to a Pelicans' game, I went with the Bananas foster donut. Bananas Foster is a New Orleans classic; it can be found on pretty much any dessert menu in some form around the state. It's a sauce made with bananas, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, rum, and usually a banana liqueur. It's phenomenal. This donut was filled with a bananas foster creme and topped with two little slices of caramelized bananas. It's massive, it's sweet, and it's very filling. It's rare that I make it through an entire donut in one sitting here, but it is always a wonderful thing. Bigtime size with Bigtime flavor. If you're down in NOLA and you don't stop by here, you're only hurting yourself. Especially in carnival season when they break out the King Cake donuts!
