The best philly I've ever had outside of the city itself is located in a tiny little restaurant attached to a gas station. It's very easy to miss, but if you're from around here (and I am), you know about it. Philly's Pizza opened when I was in high school and I've been a regular customer ever since. A picture can't do it justice. They typically overload their philly's with everything, which means you usually end up with a plate full of stuff that fell off, which is almost like a second dinner in itself. These philly's are huge. They come as a foot long, but I usually stretch that into two meals, especially if I get an order of cheese fries with it. The pepperoni philly is one of my favorite meals on earth. It's got the savory pepperoni, tons of juicy philly meat, provolone cheese, and some sweet sauteed onions all on some thick and crispy poboy bread (or whatever you call it where you're from). This sandwich packs an immensely flavorful punch. The meat is just so juicy and it has never failed to make my day better and fill me up. If you are anywhere near the heart of Louisiana (CenLA), do yourself a favor and check out this Bigtime bite. It's easy to miss. And I mean that in every way. I have yet to have another Philly that compares to it outside of PA.
