Duck 3 Ways at Bistro La Bon in Charlotte, NC. In most parts of the country, duck isn’t the easiest dish to find on a menu. Then when you do find it, it’s typically prepared just one way. The great thing about this dish is that it’s served 3 different ways: a pan-seared duck breast, a house cured duck confit leg, and a duck risotto that’s accompanied with mushrooms and figs. Each preparation was cooked to perfection. The breast was nice and moist and cooked a perfect medium rare surrounded by a crisp and tasty layer of skin. The duck confit (meaning cooked in its own fat) had a crispy outer skin, yet the dark meat inside was tender and flavorful. Resting underneath the duck confit was the risotto, which had just the right consistency that a good risotto should have - not too sticky, starchy or gummy. A slightly sweet blueberry duck demi-glacé sauce tied the whole dish together. Bistro La Bon is open for both lunch and dinner and late night on Friday and Saturday. They have a diverse menu with a little bit of everything. Excellent service as well. First time at this place, but I’ll be back!
