Sometimes life throws you curveballs. Sometimes it throws you meatballs. Upon having the rug pulled from under our feet the other night when expecting to dine at one of our favorite PDX restaurants (we thought it was a casual walk-in that night, but no dice), my fiancé and I were left to come up with a plan B. We walked around the corner and stumbled upon 24th & Meatballs and quickly looked up the menu (it was cold out!!). Homemade meatballs: check. Homemade sauce: check. Fast-forward about 20 minutes and we weren't feeling so bad anymore about our mishap at the previous restaurant. I can fully endorse 24th & Meatballs as a rock solid lunch or dinner option for those who have an affinity for meatballs and don't mind something casual. It's relatively light on the wallet, too. The menu options are very straight forward...they break it down into a three-step process: 1, "choose your dish" (slider, panini, hero, balls balls balls, pasta and balls, or polenta and balls), 2. "choose your balls" (classic italian, pork piccante, chicken, vegan, or the 'ball of the day'), 3, "choose your sauce" (tomato basil, creamy cheesy, spicy pork, or pesto). As you can tell from the title of this report, I went with 'pasta and balls.' I went with penne, two classic italian and one pork piccante ball, and topped it off with the spicy pork sauce. It was all I could ask for in a $10 dinner. I love how the menu is completely customizable and I walked away very happy with my choice. The spice level was just right, but hot enough for me to make a few trips back to the beverage area to refill my water. The meatballs were tender and moist and full of flavor and the penne played its supporting role very well, too. All in all, a RT bigtime bite!
